Plaster
‘Against the edge of the factory are white plaster panels, subtly arranged by Jeltje Schuurmans. The panels look like maps of unknown made-up islands. These are structures that, according to Schuurmans’ preference, have been torn open. Schuurmans seems to be flirting with minimalism with her white panels. They are arranged as if they are part of a capitalist production process, in which the materials produced lean against the wall as if they were piled up.’

‘As if through a magnifying glass, Schuurmans first looks at the detail before wanting to experience the total picture. There in the stillness, in the skin of the material, in the vibration of a pulling muscle, in the transience and decay she sees life. Here lies the confrontation. Here lies the conversation. A subject that cannot be touched. Content that could be considered painful to many people, not need to be named. The visual afterimages. The prints of a presence.  Someone or something has been here.’
